The primary motive behind the new 2017 Audi Q5 is to bring an array of standard equipment as a part of a generational change. Set to compete against the likes of Jaguar F-Pace, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class and BMW X3, this new Audi Q5 offers a wide range of performance and styling options.
Trims and Packages
This new 2017 Audi Q5 is offered in 3 trims viz. Premium, Prestige and Premium Plus. Buyers even get to choose between Audi MMI Navigation Plus Package and Convenience Package for additional performance benefits.
2017 Audi Q5 Powertrain
Audi has ditched the hybrid powertrain this time and instead presented 3 engine options. All the three engines will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as standard.
- The 1st one (base) is a 2.0-liter inline 4 engine which has 16 valve DOHC valve lift. This engine produces 220 HP at 4,450 to 6,000 RPM and 258 lb-ft of torque at 1,500 RPM. A sprint of 0 to 60 mph is achieved in 7.0 seconds, and mileage figures measure at 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined.
- Another engine – a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 sits on top of the base variant. This mill cranks out 272 HP at 4,780 RPM and 295 lb-ft of torque at 2,150 RPM. This unit performs a tad poor in mileage as the numbers stay at 18/26/21 mpg for city/highway/combined respectively. On the other hand, acceleration improves to 6.0 seconds for 0 to 60 mph sprint.
- Lastly, a tuned version of the same 3.0-liter V6 churns out an impressive 354 HP. Torque figures are likely to hover around the same mark. This increased output helps in achieving 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
2017 Q5’s Drive Select brings along different flavors of ride experience. This drive mode consists of 4 different options viz. Comfort, Individual, Sport and Auto.
Exterior and Interior
2017 Audi Q5 is essentially a carryover of the last model as is due for a major overhaul next year. This new model’s root is tied with the last generation Audi A4 as its design cues hint such. To note a few changes, the grille is reshaped while retaining the signature persona. Headlights are now slimmer and (fortunately) don’t lose the stylistic curves. The LED taillights have taken a wave of change both in design and placement.
The interior cabin of Audi Q5 is one of the most important success factors, and the company isn’t going to abandon it any sooner. There’s a wide center console and driver-centric cockpit which are all part of Audi’s signature design language.
Materials used in this cabin include plastic, coordinated leather, wood and metallic trims. The oak trim layering comes as optional which includes a furniture-like finish. Technology wise, the infotainment system is revised with the addition of new controls.
Safety and Pricing
Safety features that come as standard include Dual Stage Airbags, Low Tire Pressure Monitoring, ABS, Driveline Traction Control, Child Safety Locks and Parking Assist. The Premium trim of 2017 Audi Q5 starts at $40,900; Premium Plus starts at $46,900 and Prestige starts at $46,400.
