Compact crossover SUVs come and go but Buick’s Encore has stuck on to its prominence over the years now (and that too in a segment that’s seemingly competitive). A new generation upgrade in the form of 2017 Buick Encore should just do it for leveling and locking horns with segment heavy weights like Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3 and Jeep Renegade.
The new Buick Encore has been updated inside out and comes in a refreshed styling which is just needed in this crowded niche. This time, 2017 Encore is offered in 5 different trims and are priced accordingly. The figures go as:
- 1SV – $23,000
- Preferred – $25,000
- 2017 Buick Encore Sport Touring – $26,000
- Preferred II – $27,000
- Essence – $29,000
- 2017 Buick Encore Premium – $31,000
Powertrain and Performance
The new 2017 Buick Encore is powered by a 1.4-liter ECOTEC turbocharged engine that produces 138 HP of power at 4,900 RPM and 148 lb-ft of torque at 1,850 RPM (redline: 4,900 RPM). This engine also makes the most out of its turbocharged power as it uses forged connecting rods and a reinforced crankshaft.
With technologies like multi-port fuel injection and Variable Valve Timing, fuel economy is now improved to 25 mpg city/ 33 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined. Apart from impressive fuel saving figures, the biggest plus point would be it’s 3,200 lbs. of towing capacity.
Another engine option is a 1.4-liter SIDI turbocharged inline 4 that cranks out 153 HP at 5,600 RPM and 177 lb-ft at 2,000 RPM (redline: 4,000 RPM). Buick has tuned this engine to produce maximum torque across a wide rev range which helps inputting out a lively driving response.
The Buick Encore 2017 comes with a pronounced styling with sportiness and athleticism to some significant extent. Up front, the headlights now tilt angular towards the grille and integrate dual daytime running strips. However, the grille itself is upscale with fine chrome treatments. Similarly, fog light housing are deeply recessed and flaunt stylistic chrome finishers.
There’s an alloy skid plate on the front bumper which adds a bit of ruggedness. All 4 wheel arches wear clean plastic cladding which are repeated on the entire body edges too. Also, the roof has an interesting approach as it glides dramatically downwards to create a dynamic rear fascia.
There’s a vast range of body color option available in Buick Encore 2017. These include:
- Winter Berry Red Metallic
- White Forest Tricoat
- Quicksilver Metallic
- Ebony Twilight Metallic
- Coastal Blue Metallic
- Summit White
- Black Cherry Metallic
