2017 Ford Escape Gets a Mild Mid-Cycle Boost

The crossover SUV segment is home to several great models and Ford’s Escape is one dominating model. Since its inception in 2000, this vehicle has spanned nearly 3 generations. Now, the model has received another annual life-cycle refreshment and came as 2017 Ford Escape.

This new Ford Escape brings forth a myriad of tech updates along with a tuned-up suspension and revamped styling. 2017 Escape also breaks free from its long-time rivals like Honda CR-V, KIA Sportage and Hyundai Santa Fe as it doesn’t share a body-on-frame platform unlike the others.

Engine Options

Powertrain is the parameter where this Ford Escape 2017 surprises the most as there are 3 different engine options. Starting with the trio of powerplants, there’s the base 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine which makes 170 lb-ft of torque and 168 HP. This engine incorporates iVCT  which help in improving fuel efficiency. EPA figures are around 21 mpg in city, 29 mpg on highways and 24 mpg on a combined scale.

Another engine option is a 1.5-liter EcoBoost which churns out 179 HP and 177 lb-ft of torque. This mill is also a replacement to the previously 1.6 gasoline burner. According to Ford officials, this 2017 Ford Escape engine is the most efficient one as it delivers a fuel economy of 23 mpg city/ 30 mpg highway/ 26 mpg combined. Apart from these impressive EPA ratings, CO2 emissions are also reduced to significant levels.

A 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine is the top-of-the-line performer. That is capable of producing an impressive 245 HP and 275 lb-ft of torque. For what it’s worth, 0 to 60 sprint is achieved in less than 7 seconds. A 6-speed automatic transmission is a sole option for all these engines as there’s no other option. But that being said, buyers do get the option of both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive.

Design wise, this new Ford Escape 2017 lives up to its legacy as it bears a pronounced styling inside out. This model’s upscale fascia comprises of a clean grille which has 2 horizontal chrome bars. The headlights boast a profound styling as they are placed angulary to the front fenders.

Also, sleek LED daytime lights run on the edges of these headlights. There are new subtle aerodynamic creases on the hood which highlight sportiness. Robust roof rails are a new addition that goes well with the body claddings.

Interior and Safety

The interior cabin of 2017 Ford Escape comes largely unchanged as the dashboard has the same layout. It’s the technological aspects that have seen improvements as SYNC infotainment with SYNC Connect comes standard. A new 8-inch multi-functioning display with rotary controls sits in the center console.

Safety goes on par with the overall capabilities of this crossover SUV. Some of the standard features include -Electronic Stability Control, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Pedestrian Detection, Parking Assist and Multi-stage Airbags.

The 2017 Ford Escape comes in 3 different trims. Its pricing varies accordingly. The prices are put as S at $23,000, SE at $25,000 and 2017 Ford Escape Titanium at $29,000.
