It has been a decade since Ford let the Flex grow and evolve in its own way. This continues for the new generation model; 2017 Ford Flex as well. The new Ford Flex is unique from most other SUVs as its exterior design and interior spacing is one of a kind.
As the competition in SUV segment is already tough, this new model will add some interest and take on 2017 KIA Sorento, 2017 Jeep Cherokee and 2017 Chevrolet Equinox.
One Engine for Two Different Outputs
The company has again used the same 3.5-liter V6 engine which is standard in all models of 2017 Ford Flex. This engine is tuned in two different setting for various outputs. In the base model, this V6 produces 287 HP at 6,500 RPM and 254 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM.
Mating to a 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, this mill also delivers fuel economy ratings as 16 mpg in city, 23 mpg on highways and 19 mpg on a combined scale. For higher trims, a turbocharged version of this V6 churns out 365 HP and is exclusively mated to all-wheel drive.
Traditional Styling Continues in the Exterior
This new 2017 Ford Flex has retained the boxy exterior shape of its predecessor. This exterior design approach is a break from all modern crossovers and SUVs that come in a smooth shape. To bring out a generational change, Ford has revised the front fascia with a revised grille.
The headlights now incorporate satin-chrome trim highlight which interconnects both of them. Robust and dynamic moldings shape the hood with aerodynamics. The front bumper wears 3 horizontal chrome strips over the air intakes.
The windshield and front doors are upright which creates a parallel symmetry to the roof. Both front and rear wheel arches are flaunted a bit which matches perfectly with subtle bulges in the side doors.
Trims and Respective Prices
This new Ford Flex offers 3 trims – 2017 Ford Flex SE, 2017 Ford Flex SEL and 2017 Ford Flex Limited. Respective pricing for these models goes as $30,000 for SE, $32,700 for SEL and $38,300 for Limited.
