Compact SUVs and crossovers are the fastest growing market segment in the automobile industry. And Infiniti looks to up the ante with this all-new 2017 Infiniti QX50. Modeled as crossover, what Infiniti have aimed to do with this crossover is make it simply a hell of a drive. Adding to that a complete luxury package from the inside as per luxury and tech, this is simply a complete package which moves with quite a gusto. Base Infiniti QX50 price is $34,500.
Under the Hood
And this is the talking point when it comes to the performance specs of this model. A 3.7-liter V6 24-valve engine which comes with an aluminum-alloy engine block and heads. This is a newly designed production model from the Infiniti stables. Its power stats read as follows:
- Max Output – 325 HP at 7,000 rpm
- Max Torque – 267 lb-ft at 5,200 rpm
Comparing a 325 HP engine to a crossover which comes in at just above 3,800 lbs, this is a unanimously potent power-to-weight ratio on offer. Adding to this Infiniti’s engine techs such as CVTCS (Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System) and VVEL (Variable Valve Event and LIFT), a smooth flow of torque is guaranteed throughout the rpm range.
A 7-speed electronic Auto transmission mates perfectly with this engine setup. It also comes with a handy manual transmission mode which too blends in nicely with this rev-loving engine. Both RWD and AWD drive options are available in this 2017 Infiniti QX50.
Estimated EPA ratings come in at around 17/24/20 mpg for city highway and combined drive modes.
High on Modern Tech and Luxury
At the end of the day, Infiniti is a luxury car division. So there’s nothing surprising in the sheer amount of luxury and infotainment specs in this 2017 Infiniti QX50. Premium leather, wood and upscale materials don every inch of this shapely cabin. Worthwhile tech features include:
- Dual Zone Climate Control.
- 4-Way and optional 8-Way Power Seating.
- 6-Speaker Audio with optional 11-Speaker Bose Audio System.
- 7-inch Multi-Infotainment screen.
- Optional INFINITI Navigation with Voice Recognition and NavTraffic.
- Optional Around View System for 360 degree Camera vision.
Sober From the Outside
And to some, this model might just look a bit too naive compared to the likes of Toyota C-HR or the Nissan Juke. Although this model does lie at a place just above these models there’s likely to be competition given that all of these models fall within the crossover genre.
From a long angle, the stance of this 2017 Infiniti QX50 is quite reassuring. The roofline slopes gently but surely giving an almost immediate sporty resemblance. As usual, there are nearly no power-lines on the side-body, something that is common from Infiniti.
The front fascia hosts a rectangular grille with the top edge-lines angling inwards for just that bity to do away with a regular contour. Massive headlights on either side of a long bonnet housing the 3.7-liter engine have trademark dual-circular lamps. Below the grille, a rectangular air intake winged with two smaller ones on either side also come with added fog lights.
The rear end flaunts dual exhausts and bulged tailgate right at its middle. The rear lamps have a transversal water-drop shape, blending in well with the contours. And this sums a dialed-down exterior model of this vehicle.
2017 Infiniti QX50 Competitors and Review
Up against the likes of BMW X3, Lexus NX and Audi Q5, what this model will falter in is sheer looks. But from the inside, this 2017 Infiniti QX50 is something that buyers will have a hard time avoiding.
