Easily one of the most iconic brands around, this all-new 2017 Jeep Compass is a crossover which remains true to Jeep’s essence. This model looks urbane and can take that dirt track ambitiously. And that is just what buyers will want from any Jeep production model. With a uni-body chassis, this model seems to have everything right with it. Here’s look into this brand new 2017 Compass crossover.
A refreshing design from Jeep, this new vehicle looks ruggedly handsome. A muscular bold front end immediately grabs the attention with its minimalist grille. The basic reason why this design stands out is the bullishly huge front fender, larger than the grille dominating the front fascia. A worthwhile rectangular air intake is placed in below the fender. Fog lights are placed on its either side with the headlamps following suit of the short grille dimensions coming with powerfully designed LEDs.
The rear end is not that flashy with a regular overall look. But this 2017 Jeep Compass does look ravishing from the side thanks to a proper adventurous shape and stance. Rear windows angle up to a straight-lined roof giving it the perfect crossover shape.
Other than a new 75th-anniversary edition top range trim, this new model comes in 4 other trims, viz.:
- 2017 Jeep Compass Sport
- 2017 Compass Sport SE
- 2017 Jeep Compass Latitude
- 2017 Compass High Altitude
Utility and not luxury is the motive of the interiors. Upscale plastic comes for standard with added options such as Black Leather by Mopar. In-Cabin space is quite substantial keeping in mind that this is a serious crossover.
Tech specs come with numerous options such as 3 variants of LCD screen sizes – 5.7 or 8.4-inch multi-infotainment screens. This 2017 Jeep Compass provides an old-school gauge with a 3.5 info display with an optional all-digital 7-inch dash and info cluster.
There are two engine options available with this model – a 2.0-liter I4 and a 2.4-liter I4 units. Both these engines come are DOHC (Direct Overhead Cam Shafts) engines along with VVT (Variable Valve Timing). Power specs for the base 2.0-liter engine are as follows: –
- Max Output – 158 HP at 6,400 rpm
- Max Torque – 141 lb-ft at 5,000 rpm
The 2.4-liter engine provides obviously comes with added power and torque – 172 HP at 6,000 rpm and 165 lb-ft at 4,400 rpm.
There are two transmission options which come with this new Jeep Compass. A 5-Speed manual and an Auto transmission with CVT (Continuously Variable Transaxle) – both these gearboxes combine perfectly with the engine to provide seamless power irrespective of climate and terrain.
Added techs such as Jeep ADL (Active Drive Low), Hill Descent, Rock Mode make off-roading in this model more fun than the power specs can warrant. Jeep’s ADL, for example, allows 100% power to be transmitted to that wheel with the highest traction – a handy tool for some serious off-roading.
EPA figures come in at around 20/26 mpg for city and highways.
