In today’s world, one will hardly come across compact SUVs which offer an optical punch. Most of the top names such as Nissan Rogue, Ford Escape and Honda CR-V host the same conservative appearance. But when one takes a gander at the 2017 KIA Sportage, deep down the heart cannot help but say- “That’s innovation reinvented!”
Performance Now Sees Improvements
For 2017 generation, this new KIA Sportage gets not just 1 but 2 powertrain options.
The first one is a 2.4-liter DOHC 16 valve inline 4 which produces 175 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM and 181 HP of power at 6,000 RPM. As this mill integrates Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) and Direct Fuel Injection, it delivers an impressive EPA rating of 23 mpg city, 30 mpg highways and 26 mpg combined with FWD. These figures drop to 21/25/22 mpg for city/highway/combined with AWD. Its towing capacity also checks at a modest 2,000 lbs.
Next up is the 2.0-liter DOHC 16 valve inline 4 turbocharged gasoline burner. This engine’s output are brawny as the figures go 240 HP at 6,000 RPM and 260 lb-ft at 1,450 – 3,500 RPM. With FWD, fuel economy checks at 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highways and 23 mpg combined while these numbers drop to 20/23/21 mpg with AWD.
2017 KIA Sportage External Specs
The body comes in a completely new avatar, and that is owing to the usage of high-strength steel in 51% proportion. The previous models used up around 18% of the same component, and so this is one thing which can be seen as completely different in this fresh model.
At first glance, one can find the soft SUV style design revamped. But the trademark Tiger Nose grille of KIA is retained. Furthermore, the swept back headlights in this latest model somewhat remind auto enthusiasts about the Porsche Macan. Also LED fog lights shaped like ice-cubes existing on the 2017 KIA Sportage evokes the looks of the Sorento.
Changes in the Interior
The interior cabin of KIA Sportage 2017 boasts ultimate comfort which caters a pleasant driving experience. The dashboard, door panels and center armrests now wear soft-touch materials for a premium feel. The driver’s gauge cluster doesn’t infuse the analog meters and TFT display together and rather features a unique layout. The seats are plush and wear contrast thread stitching.
KIA has built this Sportage out of the Iso-Structure uni-body which has been designed to absorb energy in case of any crash while keeping the interior cabin safe. The new KIA Sportage also benefits from an array of safety features like:
- Electronic Stability Control
- Driveline Traction Control
- Multi-stage Airbags
- Back-Up Camera
- Parking Assist
- Tire Pressure Monitoring
- Side Impact Beams
- Downhill Brake Control
As there are 3 trim levels of 2017 KIA Sportage, pricing varies accordingly. First, there’s the LK trim which starts at $23,000, then there’s EX starting at $25,000 and the range-topping 2017 KIA Sportage SX Turbo which reaches almost up to $32,000.
