Mazda CX-7 is one of those vehicles which have left customers wanting for more as no new model has come up since 2012. With that being said, this vehicle now comes in interest as it is reported to be resurrected as 2017 Mazda CX-7. Considering the major overhaul of Mazda CX-9 for 2017 generation, a new CX-7 would fit in just right.
Owing a lot to its predecessor, the new Mazda CX-7 is expected to come with a wide array of changes while retaining the heritage silhouette. So what could be the possible changes for this new generation refreshment to compete against KIA Sportage, Mitsubishi Outlander and Hyundai Santa Fe?
What’s in Stock for Powertrain?
The 2017 Mazda CX-7 is expected to put out 2 options for power units; a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 2.5-liter inline 4.
- The 2.0-liter 4 cylinder mill is to be featured as standard (base). Although not confirmed, this engine’s output figures are likely to stay around 157 HP and 155 lb-ft of torque. Just like its sibling; Mazda CX-5, the engine incorporates VVT (Variable Valve Timing) to keep EPA ratings at 25 mpg in city, 31 mpg on highways and 29 mpg on a combined basis.
- Upping the ante, there’s the optional 2.5-liter SKYACTIV inline 4 which is expected to produce 187 HP at 6,000 rpm and 185 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm . Fuel economy of this engine will stay close to 26 mpg city/ 33 mpg highway/ 30 mpg combined.
Both of these engines offer the option for both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. Similarly, the 6-speed transmission system allows for both manual and automatic shifting.
2017 Mazda CX-7 Interior Changes
This new Mazda CX-7’s interior cabin will be changed with the company’s modern styling. The 2012 year model had a rugged dashboard which will be sophisticated this time around. The center console also needs to be changed like that of Mazda CX-9. The driver’s seat will get heating and power reclining function with memory setting. MAZDA CONNECT infotainment system is also to be revised.
Is the Exterior Body’s been Changed?
Yes. According to several renders, this 2017 Mazda CX-7 looks more pronounced than its predecessor. The front fascia looks significantly different as the headlights are blazed with stylistic chrome trims and sharp cuts. These headlights even incorporate sloping strips of LED daytime running lights.
As this model’s exterior body integrates the company’s signature Kodo design language, the grille’s design is similar to Mazda CX-5 and CX-9. The front bumper’s approach angle is inwards which is affected by the bulging dome-like hood. All-new aluminum alloy wheels are to be featured in 2 different sizes; 18 and 20 inches. Like the hood, there’s a subtle bulge in the side body which continues till the rear wheel arches.
Will the pricing get bumps?
Given the changes, this 2017 Mazda CX-7 could come with a starting price of $30,000 or more. Mazda is reported to list out this model on the official website soon and might come out by the 2nd half of 2017.
