Porsche’s Cayenne range of SUVs are among the most popular and successful range of luxury SUVs across the globe. The German manufacturers have tailor-made this series of model which can be modified with further GTS, Turbo and Turbo S modifications. And this upcoming 2017 Porsche Cayenne sports the best of the current generation among with a few added features to woo more buyers towards it.
This 2017 Porsche Cayenne comes in 3 trims – the base trim, a Platinum Edition and S. The other GTS and Turbo models come with more power and features with the German manufacturers considering them as a separate range altogether.
New Improved Powertrain Specs
This range of models comes with only one engine which is simply modified further for improved performance. The 2017 Porsche Cayenne engine is as always a 3.6-liter V6 engine with Direct Injection. Maximum output is 300 HP at 6,300 rpm and torque is at 295 lb-ft. at 3,000 rpm.
This engine is known for its quick responses making for a strong city drive. Torque-dip is minimal even though this is a naturally aspirated model. The new 2017 model comes with an engine which has a 5% boost in all figures.
Unlike the base and Platinum trim, the S trim engine comes with a Porsche racy twin-turbo setup along with intercoolers which hunk up the specs to 420 HP at 6,000 rpm and 406 lb-ft of torque at 1,350. And this low-ranging torque makes for rampant drive.
Both these engines come with Porsche’s marvelous 8-Speed Automatic Tiptronic S transmission. AWD is compulsory for all of these models and Porsche presents RWD as optional. As again, a performance boost is obvious.
2017 Porsche Cayenne Design Changes
There are more than a few things which comes as standard in these new models. A 7” inch touchscreen is carried over as standard with an 8.4” for as a larger option. Porsche’s home-made Communication Management System is added to the base trim setup to add more value for buyers.
The higher trim features in current Platinum models are rolled down to some extent as well while adding a few GTS features into the new 2017 Platinum trim. Google Earth and StreetView integration is also another feature-trickle which comes as optional when it comes to the base trim. Buyers get an optional Porsche Connect Plus package too as per industry disclosures.
Added or optional features in the S trim include Alcantara leather trimmings and 8-way adjustable sports seats for front passengers.
There are minimal exterior changes made to show a sportier stance edging a bit closer to that of the Panamera. A minor rejig can be noticed in the front lamps along with a few others in a lifted up rear end.
Price and Competition
2017 Porsche Cayenne price stays the same although with just a minimal increment. Base trims starts from around $61,000, then Platinum Edition comes in with $68,000 if not more with the S trim to inch closer to the $80,000 bracket. Competitors include BMW X6, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Mercedes-Benz GLE Class among others.
