2017 Renault Koleos (Grand Kadjar) is a whole new iteration of the 1st generation Koleos (Renault’s first crossover SUV ever). As this new model comes as part of the brand’s flagship SUV, it is competing against the likes of Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander.
Almost everything has changed in this new-generation Renault Koleos. One of the biggest and most important improvements is the overall size which has grown for accommodating 7 people. According to Renault CEO, this new Koleos is completely re-engineered for bringing a full SUV capability and next generation styling.
2017 Renault Koleos Engine
Under the hood of this new Koleos is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine which produces 170 HP at 3,750 RPM and 265 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 RPM. This engine has been paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission along with a front wheel drive.
Detailed specs of this engine include:
- Bore and Stroke – 84 mm × 90 mm
- Valve Gear – Dual Overhead Cam
- Compression Ratio – 15.7
- Fuel Economy – 38 mpg (combined)
Another engine option is a 2.5-liter normally aspirated gasoline engine which produces 166 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM and 168 HP at 6,000 RPM. This engine uses a CVT along with the optional manual mode. The drive configuration is versatile as it offers the option for 4-wheel lock, 4-wheel auto and 2-wheel drive.
The new 2017 Renault Koleos is a significantly new departure from the last model. As compared to its predecessor, this new Koleos has a muscular and defined hood with angular lines.
Down below, the grille is reworked and feature chrome accents on the slats. The headlights are all-new with LED strips over the top of low-beam light. The fog lights are recessed into rectangular cutouts with chrome embellishments.
Muscular styling continues in its side body as wheel arches are beefed up. This also creates the area around B-pillar to embody a look of depth. Plastic cladding is done over the entire body edges which add more brawny character. Moving towards the rear fascia, there’s a short overhang which houses the high-mount brake light. Rectangular exhaust outlets complete the overall look.
The interior cabin of 2017 Renault Koleos hints a strong competition in the crossover segment. To ensure a premium styling and comfort, Renault has featured leather upholstery in the seats, center console and armrests with white stitching. On the technology front, an ambient blue lighting maintains a great interior décor. The R-Link2 infotainment system is paired with Bose audio system (and comes as standard).
As vehicle safety is a rising concern amongst most customers, 2017 Renault Koleos incorporates several safety techs. Some of these are:
- Parking Sensors
- Traffic Sign Recognition (with Speed Warning)
- Safe Detection Warning
- Automatic high-low beam headlights
- Lane Departure Warning
- Active Emergency Braking System
