Luxury SUVs are a burgeoning market segment especially considering the US market. With the recent drop in crude prices, this segment along with pickup trucks is leading the automobile industry with strong sales. A 2018 Acura MDX is well on the cards despite a 2017 as the manufacturers look to make the best of times. Competition will come from the likes of Audi Q7, Jaguar F-Pace, BMW X5 among others. And this upcoming model will have quite a few refreshments and changes attached.
2018 Acura MDX powerful engine option
Honda’s luxury vehicle division does have a decent market share in the US market. But the luxury vehicle division is a highly competitive market and value-for-features alone does not guarantee strong sales. Going up against the likes of Audi and Porsche, Acura falls short in vehicle performance. But that is just where this upcoming model will improve.
Current engine options are limited to a single choice – a 3.5 L V6 engine. And this engine will be continued as the base option in the upcoming model. Featuring direct gas injection, VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) and i-VTEC, max power outputs come in at around 290 HP and 267 lb-ft. Best EPA figures will come in at around 19/27/22 mpg city/highway/combined.
The added engine option on this upcoming 2018 Acura MDX will be 3.0 L V6 turbocharged unit. VVT and VCT along with Direct and Port Injection will be included added to this unit to optimize performance and fuel efficiency.
All of this comes from insider sources who believe this engine option is already being tested for -performance. Accurate outputs are not possible but expected figures will come in at around 325 HP and 290 lb-ft.
Both these power units will be mated with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Two drivetrain options will be available with either setups, a FWD and an AWD. Best EPA figures of this Acura MDX 2018 will come in with FWD. Figures are estimated to be around 17/26/20 mpg city/highway/combined.
Expected Exterior Modifications
Not much will change outside other than a few minor ones. To start from behind, rear light design will change with a new LED structure expected to be installed on to it. There are chances of the roofline extending a bit more towards the rear end to negate the bulging lift-gate portion.
The hatch spoiler might be added right from the base trims of this upcoming 2018 Acura MDX. Further, wheel arches might be more pronounced than the current model. Acura might follow its NSX design language by adding more angular motion to the front fascia. Air intakes are expected to mimic the front fender angles instead of just being parallel and horizontal.
Acura does not ascertain any major changes so far on the interior modifications for the upcoming 2018 Acura MDX will sport. Some features will be trickled down from higher trims onto lower ones. Stay tuned for more info in this section.
Expected Pricing and Release Date
With a release date around early 2019, 2018 Acura MDX is expected to carry a price tag starting from $45,000 for the base trims.
