There was a time when manufacturers like Rolls-Royce and Bentley used to be the epitome of luxury with power in automobiles. However, this has changed over time with manufacturers like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW all gearing up for introducing ultra-luxury and performance with a new range of flagship SUVs. The 2018 Audi Q8 will compliment the A8 as their top-end models. Moreover, there are quite a few things which this model will boast.
Ever since the German manufacturers showed their 2018 Audi Q8 concept at the 2017 Detroit Auto show, a production model was only a matter of time. It will take on BMW’s X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE Class, but that is not where the story ends. The thing is, this model is supposed to be more than a luxury SUV. Inside sources claim that Audi is instead aiming at bench marking the production level top-end luxury SUV segment instead.
Breaking new grounds is what these German manufacturers are aiming at. Everything from the design language to the performance specs is all about achieving the pinnacle in production car engineering. Moreover, there’s lot that this concept will share with its production counterpart.
2018 Q8 Design
2018 Audi Q8 spy images show a lower roofline and wider wheelbase compared to the Q7. Moreover, this upcoming model will share the same modular platform too. It does seem to have taken that larger grille and air intake geometry from its concept design. Body and rear end designs are inconclusive. However, the production model may just have air intakes under headlamps as in the concept models.
Interiors will share a lot with a Q7 too but only in the basics. It will be on par with the interior functionalities to be found in upcoming Audi A8. Augmented reality and gesture functions along with all-touchscreen controls are just to start things up. Heads-up windshield displays are another addition which might come in top models.
Luxury will be separated as per trims. Moreover, there are leaked images and details of a 2018 Audi Q8 Sport. The top trims will aim to compete against Porsche Cayenne Turbo models. This model will somehow look beyond the offerings available in high Q7 trims. Entertainment and upholstery is where most of the improvements will be made.
