2018 GMC Terrain Takes over its own GMC Sibling

With an all-new design and new engines, the second generation Terrain is prepared for a 2017 launch, sources say. 2018 GMC Terrain represents GMC’s fleet of range of crossovers attempting to take on the Honda CR-V and Chevy Equinox. While the new Terrain gets rid of the V6, GMC has planned to equip it with a new set of turbocharged engines. New GMC Terrain 2018 has already been on display at the Detroit auto show 2017. While more than 700,000 Terrains have already been sold, GMC is eager to identify customer’s reactions for 2018 version of this crossover.

2018 GMC Terrain Engine and powertrain

This new vehicle will have 3 engine options although it has got rid of the V6. 2 options include turbocharged gas engines while the third is a diesel engine. Petrol engine options offered by GMC are:

  • 1.5 liters 4 cylinder turbo charged producing 170 HP and 203 lb-ft of torque for base model.
  • 2.0 turbocharged l4 producing 252 HP and 260 lb-ft of torque.

Both the petrol engines have been mated to 9 speed automatic transmissions.

Diesel version of Terrain will sport 1.6 liters 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing and excess of 137 HP and 240 lb-ft of torque. This has got a 6 speed transmission system. All trim levels of the 2018 GMC Terrain will feature either FWD or AWD.

The traction Select option in new Terrain enables an AWD vehicle to transform into a FWD by decoupling the rear axles when not required. This smart move will save fuel, says GMC. The conventional transmission system has been replaced with a host of dials and switches. This will provide more space in the center console and it will be easier to shift gears.

The bold looking Terrain has got even stronger and sharper sculpted elements with new grilles and headlamps. GMC has taken of optimal efficiency and aerodynamics with the distinct curves in this new model. The range of exterior changes to be featured in the new Terrain is:

  • C-shaped headlamps and typical GMC Floating roofs.
  • 17 inch and 18 inch alloy wheels for the SL, SLE and SLT versions.
  • 2018 Terrain Denali version includes new bodywork and new trims with roof rails and door handles of chrome.
  • The Denali version has been equipped with 19 inch super bright alloy wheels.

The four trim levels available for the GMC Terrain 2018 are SL, SLE, SLT, Extra plush and the premium Denali.


GMC has given special attention to the interior design as well. Shiny aluminum finish and leather soft materials are used for the inside. Premium features include noise cancellation and enhanced driving pleasure.

The more spacious center console can be used for additional storage and holders. Flat folding rear and front seats ensure that there is enough room for luggage when required. Collision warning system, teen-driving feature and all-round parking camera together with auto braking ensures maximum safety.

7/8 inch interactive consoles will take care of the entertainment and enhance communication. This can be connected to Apple/Android CarPlay with 4G hotspot. The Denali version will be relapsed with new trim colors and an advanced Bose premium surround sound system.

Pricing and Release Date

Expected to be released by 2017 summer, it will be priced at around $24,070 for the base model. The Denali version of 2018 GMC Terrain will be available at around $40,000.
