Subaru Forester has been on the roads since 2014. Based on Subaru’s hatchback Impreza, the Forester is a true off road vehicle. Only turn downs of the popular Japanese made crossover is its boxy design which has remained the same for nearly 20 years now. The dull gray exterior has also become anything but catchy in recent times. The 2018 Subaru Forester is all set to change the whole outlook among Forester fans.
2018 Subaru Forester Revolution in design
Though the latest Forester will be based on Subaru’s hatchback flagship Impreza, there are a lot of changes in basic design. Following a modular global architecture, its chassis gets a reshaping with high strength steel while contributing to less overall weight. 2018 Forester redesign will look a little bigger than the current version almost like the XV Concept, only less aggressive.
In-house space of 31.5 cubic feet expands to an impressive 68.5 cubic feet on folding the back row of seats. Coupled with 8.7-inch ground clearance, Subaru’s latest compact crossover would be appealing to a range of drivers, from mountain climbers to snowboarders. 17 inch and 18-inch wheel variants are likely to be available. Moving away from its traditional dull gray shade, Subaru will offer more appealing Sepia Bronze Metallic and Dark Blue Pearl shades.
2018 Subaru Forester has driver’s comfort in mind and hence brings in softer suspension in play. Also expect to see luxurious leather seats.
The dashboard has been kept simple yet with a large center screen for quick handling. A 7-inch touchscreen incorporates the popular StarLink system of Subaru along with bundling navigation, satellite information services, weather control and music interfaces.
2018 Subaru Forester is likely to retain its trademark 4-cylinder Boxer engines. It will feature a 2.5 L all-wheel drive engine, with manual transmission delivering 170 HP of maximum power and nearly 174 lb-ft of torque. New CVT gearbox with 6-speed manual transmission will make Subaru Forester 2018 much more fuel efficient. Expect 24 mpg experience on city roads and 32 mpg on freeway drives. It is rumored to be 15% higher fuel efficient than previous models. A likely addition would be a 1.6 L turbocharged flat-4 unit engine. This will take the output to 200 HP and 200 lb-ft torque. Top-end version is rumored to feature a 2.0 L 250 HP turbocharged engine.
Subaru Forester 2018 features the unique trip control system named Vision. Two cams mounted on top of the windshield along with integrated computer system uses dual imagery and identify vehicles and barriers beforehand. Subaru’s latest SUV offers for a safe off-road experience with a unique grip control program, X-mode that will take care of torque in highly treacherous terrain and unsafe road conditions. The new Subaru Forester 2018 will also have auto high beam assist and reverse auto braking facilities.
Expected Launch and Pricing
2018 Subaru Forester is expected to be launched sometime in the first quarter of 2018. Customers will have the luxury to choose from four trims – base, premium, touring and limited. Base model would cost around $21,000, and limited trim would be priced at maximum of $35,000.
