Jeep has, of late, been following a strategy to produce a new line of luxury and sporty SUVs. Following the success of Jeep Grand Cherokee, its design and body-work will be kept as the base for the new vehicles. Named after a native community in Colorado, 2019 Dodge Durango will be another offshoot of the Cherokee. Durango was first launched in 1997 as a mid-size SUV similar to Ford Explorer. Redesign of this came next in 2004 having similar looks like the Chevy Tahoe SUV. The third and current generation of Durango began in 2012 which follows the Grand Cherokee traits.
2019 Dodge Durango Design
The new Durango will be a racier version of the Grand Cherokee. Unlike its previous generation models, the 2019 model will be built on a unibody platform which makes the vehicles lighter. Looks will be grand with stylish front designs. Its front fascia has the signature centre-cross structure on the meshed grille studded with large headlights on either side. A horizontal air-vent is placed on the bumper with round fog lights.
The body gets anodized platinum touches along with dark-gray trims and a blacktop roof. Durango will stand tall on the roads with 20-inch aluminum wheels and drivers can expect smooth riding courtesy the sporting activity suspension.
Expect luxurious touches inside the cabin of 2019 Dodge Durango. Front seats will have heating facilities with Nappa leather covering. Higher trim will have eye-catching red leather upholstery.
An 8.4-inch touchscreen will dominate a simple layout dashboard console. It will be loaded with UConnect infotainment services with the standard features like Bluetooth, satellite navigation, radio, smartphone sync facility and voice recognition. An advanced 3-zone climate control feature should provide a pleasant driving experience for different weather conditions. 9 speaker sound system is another addition to the cabin awesomeness.
The best feature of the cabin will be infotainment screens for rear passengers mounted on the back of front seats. Standard safety features like lane keep assist sensor, rear-view camera for help in parking and 6 airbags will be included. The vehicle’s smart traction and stability control system will also be a bonus for riders expecting a controlled driving experience.
Engine and performance
2019 Dodge Durango is believed to be launched with Jeep’s powerful 5.7 liter Hemi V8 engine that can cook up a power of 360 HP backed by ZF designed 8-speed automatic transmission system. Also, expect to see a standard 3.6 liter V6 engine variant in the new launch with a maximum power of 270 HP.
Fuel efficiency for the engine should be around 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway drive on the all wheel drive mode, and 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway drive conditions on the rear wheel drive mode. Estimated tow capacity is 7400 lbs with the V8 engine and 6200 lbs with the V6 engine.
Pricing and launch
2019 Dodge Durango set to launch somewhere in mid-2018 will be a stiff competition to other luxury SUVs like Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander. Estimated price for the base model of Durango would be $45,990 and the higher trim would be priced at $48,000.
