The 2019 Skoda Polar will be the smallest crossover offered by this Czech carmaker. Otherwise, Skoda operates under the auspices of the Volkswagen Group. For this reason, the production of this new model should not be causing problems. Namely, the Volkswagen Group has developed a range of MQB platforms. On these platforms, crossover and SUV models of the new generation are set up. In addition to vehicles with “VW” logo, these platforms use Audi, Porsche, Skoda and Seat.
The Skoda Polar will be built on the VW MQB A0 platform. This new model starts with salling during 2019. This information opens a new, not so important question. Whether this model will carry the prefix 2019 or 2020. Anyway, this is the third crossover SUV model with the “SKODA” logo. After Skoda Kodiaq and Skoda Karoq, this European carmaker will enrich its offer with a new model.
Review and Competitors
Skoda Kodiaq has already achieved enviable success on the market. The vehicle is well received. Appealing design, excellent performance, and affordable price are the main advantages of this great SUV.
Also, the new Skoda Karoq picked up some sympathies. This new model has replaced the hitherto Skoda Yeti SUV on the market. Opinions about this model are divided. On one side are advocates of contemporary design and smooth lines of the vehicle. Their view is that Karoq is more pleasant and more tempting than its predecessor, Yeti. On the other hand, there is an opinion that the boxy design of the Yeti model makes the vehicle what it is. All in all, Skoda Karoq is larger in size than the previous Skoda Yeti SUV.
Increasing the dimensions of the Karoq (Yeti) model opened the space for positioning a smaller crossover model in the offer of this manufacturer. This place is intended for the future 2019 Skoda Polar crossover. In the end, it should be emphasized that this new Skoda crossover could bring a different name. Namely, there appeared speculations about the names Aratan, Aron, Amiq, or Anuq. By the time of the sale, there is still a lot of time, so all the dilemmas about the name will be eliminated. We hope that the presentation of the pre-production version will remove all dilemmas.
2019 Skoda Polar is conceived as a serious rival to Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, and other similar models.
2019 Skoda Polar Specs
The VW MQB A0 platform provides a vehicle’s inter-axis distance of around 2620 mm. Although the platform offers the possibility of a 4×4 drive, there will not be a version with such a drive system at the beginning of the sale. The assumption is that later this version will be in the offer, but only as an option.
It is expected that Skoda also offers a Scout version of the model. The 2019 Skoda Polar Scout will get additional protection elements and a slightly more aggressive look. This version could also get an optional 4×4 drive.
So far, Skoda confirms several different drive units for this crossover. Among others, they are a 3-cylinder 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine, a 1.5-liter petrol engine, and a 1.6-liter diesel unit.
